Congratulations goes to Ramanan Ganesan for referring two students to the academy between October and December 2011! Ramanan received an 8GB iPod Nano! The iPod was presented to him at the Academy Recital on December 17th – hopefully Ramanan already has it filled with his favorite music!

Personalized Gift Certificates Available!

Give the gift that REALLY keeps on giving – New World Music Academy Gift Certificates are now available in $25, $50, $75 and $100 denominations and are transferable to anyone. Current academy students, beginning students, non-beginners studying elsewhere but looking for some extra guidance, and adults – anyone can use them. They can be used for academy merchandise (like t-shirts and music tote bags) or lesson tuition.

Gift certificates are available from the front desk staff Monday through Thursdays 12 noon to 6pm and Fridays noon to 3pm. Call or email your order details – we include the person’s name and instrument on each certificate along with the amount – we will have the certificate ready for you to pick up the same day in most cases.

Academy Director Mark Anderson Releases New CD!!

Hot off the press!! Academy director and pianist Mark Anderson has a new CD out THIS WEEK! It’s the piano music of the great Hans von Bülow. Although you might not have heard of him, he is very well known to most classical musicians because he was a great performer (piano) and conductor in the mid-late 19th century. 2012 Spring Recital Information!

Our 2012 Spring Recital will take place Saturday, May 19th in Suite K next door to the academy – the same location that our last two Recitals have been held!

Remember – we do not charge a recital fee for our recitals but we do ask that all families bring non-persishable food for our food drive that benefits the Alameda Co Food Bank. Now more than ever, the Alameda Co Food Bank needs your donation. Help the academy do our part to give back to the community.

Finally, this recital will be different in that not all students will actively participate – however, all are encouraged to attend. Generally, first year students will be exempt from performing. More details will be coming from instructors over the coming months.

Let’s make this the best recital ever! Students should practice EVERY DAY…..no kidding!

Our new Discover A Star program is an extension of our Glee program but with more emphasis put into proper singing technique and a more “healthy” approach to singing for young students. Significant attention is given to stage presence, projection, characterization, audience communication and diction too. Voice instructor Cass Panuska leads voice students through a fun, entertaining and education program that takes your vocal charisma and showmanship to the next level!

Group Jazz Piano for Adults with Grammy-nominated jazz pianist John R Burr promises to build on existing piano skills and provide a foundation for a wide variety of jazz and blues styles. Groups take advantage of interactive learning while exchanging bass-lines, “comping patterns”, simple jazz voicings and improvisation of melodic lines. Open to adults of all ages and from elementary through advanced. Classes are late morning and evenings.
