The Academy’s Student Appreciation BBQ is Father’s Day June 17!

Yes, our Student Appreciation Day will be known as the Academy’s Father’s Day BBQ this year. This fun event will take place this year in the same location as last year – behind the Pleasanton Aquatic Center on Black Ave – this park is called Amador Valley Park. There is plenty of shade, built-in BBQs, an open grass field, a back-stop for baseball/softball, a playground area, restroom facilities and more. We will have free food, music, demo classes, drumming groups for all the students, parents and visitors. The BBQ will begin at noon and finish around 4pm – hot food will be served between noon and 1pm so come hungry! There will be t-shirt giveaways and other surprises!

Computer-based Classes Get a Facelift at the Academy

New for 2012 – our computer-based classes (Songwriting and Composing with Computers) are in the process of getting updated hardware and software. The academy has invested in a new iMac running the newest version of Logic Audio (9.6). We have also just purchased a Mark of the Unicorn UltraLite audio (MIDI and digital audio) interface and a M-Audio Keyboard controller. These compliment our existing studio hardware such as a Roland JV-1080 (with expansion modules) and professional audio amps with Tannoy studio monitors.
Our plan is to constantly improve our MIDI/digital audio production facilities and look forward to sharing our professional knowledge and experience with our students.

The Academy Welcomes Violinist Alise Ewan

What a pleasure it is to welcome violinist Alise Ewan to the academy roster of great instructors. Alise is a young Latvian violinist with a vast amount of musical experiences having performed in her native Latvia, Germany and the United States. See our Strings Instructors page for more details.

The HOT Ticket for Summer – The Art of Auditioning Program for Vocalists

Join industry professionals (opera and broadway singers and Los Angeles talent agents) as they guide students through the process of auditioning for a wide variety of roles, from opera to musical theater and Broadway. Classes will focus on voice techniques (breath control, range expansion, voice quality, etc), portfolio creation, effective interview techniques, how to select audition repertoire, how to improve stage presence, and much more.

Classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday beginning July 5th and ending August 21st. There are a total of 14 classes – the final class on August 21st will be held by Los Angeles talent agent Ned Lott. Mr. Lott has worked for Disney and currently casts for Nickelodeon. Cost for the entire program is $490 – payment options are available.

Hear Voice Instructor Cass Panuska in Concert!

Attention EVERYONE

This spring Cass will join Virago Opera in Alameda for a beautiful production of Madama Butterfly, in which she will sing the role of Kate Pinkerton. The shows are on March 31st, April 7th (both 8pm), and April 15th (2pm, with Japanese tea house treats) at Rhythmix Cultural Works in Alameda, 2513 Blanding Avenue, and April 20th (7pm) and 22nd (2pm) at the Hillside Club in Berkeley, 2286 Cedar Avenue. This show has a wonderful cast including Eileen Meredith, Ray Chavez, Sally Mouzon, Martin Bell, and Alex Taite, with stage director Robert Lundy-Paine and conductor Jerry Kuderna.

Our Most Successful Open House EVER!

After almost seven years of providing quality music instruction to Tri-Valley youth and adults, our Open House on March 24th and 25th was the most triumphant success to date! The academy had dozens of new faces visiting our fabulous new facility located directly across from Hart Middle School in Pleasanton. We surpassed our expectations in the number of newly registered students – 19 so far just from this event! Piano instructor Melissa Farley and Guitar instructor Mike Ramos have completely full schedules now and piano instructor Katalin Kincses has one hole left in her schedule! We’re adding another violin instructor, Alise Ewan, to keep up with the demand for violin lessons and Cass Panuska has to add another day to her schedule to accommodate the demand for her excellent voice instruction. WOW! What a great year it’s been and it’s only the end of March. Thanks to all of our instructors and Kelly Conyers at the front desk to keep the academy running smoothly. Our growth is unprecedented and we’re thankful that we are located in an area where music means such a great deal to the families that make up this vibrant community.

Academy DoReMees Explained

Academy DoReMees program…

The Academy is offering students a chance to earn DoReMees. DoReMees are academy currency. They come in denominations of $20, $10 and $5. DoReMees are earned and saved up to purchase Academy merchandise such as tote bags, t-shirts, musical puzzles and games, and much more. The ways to earn them vary by denomination.

$20 can be earned by performing at Academy events such as the Open House, Eden Villa or Parkview Assisted living facilities and other venues as the opportunity may arise.

$10 can be earned by attending concerts, operas and musical programs at local theaters such as the Bankhead, Firehouse, Amador Theater and even going to theaters around the bay area.

$5 are given out by the instructors for a variety of reasons such as excellent class behavior,

CONGRATULATIONS ABHAI and ANDREW – 100% on CM Theory Results!!

Mark Anderson’s student Andrew Yeung and Katalin Kincses’s student Abhai Sawkar just passed their 2012 Certificate of Merit Theory exam with an outstanding 100% result! Andrew took the level 8 test and Abhai took the level 5 test.

They both received a $15 iTunes card and an Academy t-shirt.

Flutist Joanna Tse Joins New World Music Academy!

We are very pleased to announce that flutist Joanna Tse has joined our academy family. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Joanna earned her Bachelors of Music from University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada before moving back to begin her work towards a Masters Degree in Chamber Music from San Francisco State University. Joanna brings a wealth of chamber music experience and highly accomplished flute playing to the academy. We look forward to a long and musical relationship with Joanna. Personalized Gift Certificates Available!

Give the gift that REALLY keeps on giving – New World Music Academy Gift Certificates are now available in $25, $50, $75 and $100 denominations and are transferable to anyone. Current academy students, beginning students, non-beginners studying elsewhere but looking for some extra guidance, and adults – anyone can use them. They can be used for academy merchandise (like t-shirts and music tote bags) or lesson tuition.

Gift certificates are available from the front desk staff Monday through Thursdays 12 noon to 6pm and Fridays noon to 3pm. Call or email your order details – we include the person’s name and instrument on each certificate along with the amount – we will have the certificate ready for you to pick up the same day in most cases.
