Composing with Computers

New World Music Academy is proud to offer a new and exciting curriculum to the tri-valley area and beyond. Computers have played a large part in the music we hear every day for decades – it is about time that students are exposed to this art-form properly and by professionals in the industry. The two classes offered cater to students aged 10 up through adult. No musical experience is required but it is an advantage. Only basic computer skills are required as well.

Both classes feature:

• Expert teaching from industry professionals
• 24/7 Email support from instructors.
• MySpace community for students to share and exchange ideas and to upload final projects for the world to hear!
• Becoming familiar with principles of MIDI and digital audio production.

Composing with Computers I - GarageBand

Class features

• 24/7 E-mail support with the instructor
• Classes are 1 hour weekly
• End of year digital music project uploaded to the web on MySpace

Pre-requisites

• All students must have a Mac laptop running OSX with the GarageBand (included in OSX) installed and bring it to class
• Headphones
• Open to ages 10 to 15. Other ages accepted on a case by case basis.

Classes will cover composing, sequencing, creating loops, MIDI editing, sound sythesis, digital audio, overdubbing and recording in a music software environment.

Composing with Computers II - Logic Audio

• 24/7 E-mail support with the instructor
• Classes are 1 hour weekly

Pre-requisites

• All students must have a PC or Mac laptop and bring it to class
• Headphones
• A copy of Logic Audio installed - the program has a free trial version but has severe limitations. We highly recommend buying the program.
• Open to ages 13 and up (high school through Adult)
